film club

R1-07504-0005

Summer feels like eons ago, but a few weeks ago I finally developed a roll of film from my Olympus point & shoot that had be going strong all season. This little baby captured 4th of July, a trip to the cabin, Beaver Island, California AND Ben and Bill's wedding. A little summer time capsule, if you will. It was pretty great, so here's a roundup of those photos plus a few from my Superheadz camera.

And what a relief it was to see that the photo of this "monster" bass I caught on Beaver Island turned out okay! Don't worry, my dad did a great job of removing the hook and fish whispering this little guy back to his home, no fish dinners for us!

perfect pair, givin' yins guys headaches since 2013

Hey hey! I haven't done one of these posts in a long time! Most likely because in Minnesota when it gets cold it also gets dark, so I never go outside and the light is all terrible and my limited photo taking skills go out the window.

But now it's nice out, and I'm finally trying out my "new" (as in I got it at christmas and this is the first roll I've finished with it) ultra wide/slim camera! Baby doesn't have any flash, so some of these came out a little dark. I TAKE WHAT I CAN GET THOUGH

sketchy

I doodle a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Are you having an extended phone conversation with me? I am probably doodling. Did you pass by me waiting for someone in a coffee shop? I am probably doodling. Am I saving a large file at work and it's taking forever? I'm probably doodling. Generally it helps me focus, and sometimes it saves my sanity! It's nice to rest my brain and just fart somethin' out real quick onto paper.

You'll see a lot of ladies with long flowing locks and messes of flowers, because those are my favorite things to draw. Sometimes it gets funny, and when I particularly like a doodle I'll save it... which has lead to me owning a lot of little scraps of paper.

Look, here are some recent faves, with a little bit of Photoshop touching up, because I can.

General laments.

I was inspired to draw a snake after I saw Celine Loup's amazing Snake Awareness Day poster!
Did anyone else read The Song of Roland in high school? I always thought the mysterious "AOI" was sort of funny and sort of creepy.

rock & roll

totem2

Inside this little bowl I found at a garage sale there are secrets. 6 little rocks, each to be sealed in a small envelope and attached to the back of each copy of It Will Be Known to Us.

totem1

The idea to make these totems came from my love of collecting snippets of nature when I'm in a new place. It's the sort of thing your mom probably did when you took your family vacation to the ocean back when you were young... at least, that's what my mom did. And now I'll do it too, and soon you will have the fruits of my weird, collect-y labor.

We collected them along the shore of Tenmile Lake during our recent trip to the cabin, but hopefully they'll travel much further than the three hour trip back to the Twin Cities. Get the word out! This thing is going to be all sorts of greyscale creepy fun, in one little zine-y package!

Alli took the last two photos in this post, and man. Talk about another lady making some great new work - some of it creepy as well!

rad

Who knew radishes came so small? There they were, at the bottom of the first box from my CSA, no bigger than a ping pong ball. I tried to use them sparlingly, maybe slicing one up for a salad, but soon enough they were all gone. Luckily, I recorded them in all sorts of media - including a some watercolor doodles (pictured above, which I am officially counting as part of my analog project because I can) and on the brand new camera the boy and I purchased, but that's a story for another day.

radish

p.s. speaking of the analog project, something that should come out of that is living here. More details on that in the future, for now we're keepin' it real spooky-like.

west wing

As previously stated, we had a blast in California. I intend on returning soon, hopefully for a longer period of time. I hope I don't sound like too much of a broken record , especially when Alli AND Katie have been posting really fantastic photos of their own lives/trips on their respective blogs. I'LL JUST POST A FEW PHOTOS OKAY? Okay.
