stop

Look closely.

When you're taking a break from work and the cities and life in general you get to look closer, listen longer, take more pauses. Luckily when I took a quick trip to Alli & Alex's cabin last weekend, I got to do just that. More soon.

affirmative

Have you heard about Positive Inking yet? Alysaa Nassner is an amazing illustrator and also a wealth of good ideas! She's gathering inspiring words from all sorts of illustrators. I just submitted my first one (above), and check out some of my favorites below!

day dream

SUNDAY

lazy breakfasts, video games and downton abbey, braid experiments and morning light. I love my Sunday mornings, in all of their incarnations. This one was filled with a new pancake recipe (whole wheat & cinnamon!), twin peaks and maybe a little bit of Minecraft.

Oh, and experimenting with our new Canon! We got a Rebel T4i recently and I'm finally learning how to use it. The boy will most likely be using it more often for film projects, but I certainly will be taking advantage of my minimal knowledge of photography for fun shots of food and various small corners of my apartment.

sunday

my bag from the new domestic pretty much looks good in any situation.

sunday

doesn't that pancake look like it has a tail?

sunday

yet another little green darling that I'm trying my darndest not to kill.

pop pop

popsicle affirmation

This morning and most of this whole week, when not at work, I've spent at the computer working on projects. Yes it's been tough to look out the window and think to myself "I could be sunning myself at a park or swimming in a lake", but it's also be SO rewarding.

Popping over to my pinterest for a second to scope out possible color palettes for one of said projects, I couldn't help but notice my popsicle obsession has kicked it up a notch recently. I made some minty watermelon pops (eh) and some strawberry/mango/lemonade pops (YESGOOD) recently, and am now looking for my next recipe to try out.

Which one do you think I should go for?

coconut mango creamsicles from the everyday girl/chanelling contessa

herb infused lemonade popsicles from babble.com // cucumber honeydew margarita "poptails" from endless simmer

bourbon peaches & cream popsicle from endless simmer

make it work

Just popping in for a quick "art life" update. I've been working on quite a few projects of late - and am desperately trying to improve my time management skills! Anywho, I finished two illustrations recently that I'm super duper satisfied with, which is a nice feeling. WANNA KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM?

On the left we have the new header image for Erin's lovely blog, Babes in Thriftland. She was a joy to work with, full of fun ideas and lots of wiggle room for me. Plus I got to draw Ace, her uh-DOR-able dog. I like drawing pupsters. Thanks for working with me, Erin!

On the right is the finished version of the little work in progress I posted about last time. You can see the full image here. I've been working with Lisa tirelessly (read: on and off) this whole month on a zine we're calling It Will Be Known to Us. It's all about our interest in crystals and visions and keys and spirits and other creepy things. It's going to be in greyscale, so no color this time around. But like I said, I'm really enjoying the challenge! I'll keep you updated on the progress of this one, bloggie.

What are you working on?

void

After Illustration Bootcamp one of the biggest things I had written down (and underlined many times) was to totally rehaul my website and update my blog on a weekly basis.

Yep. That's going pretty well.

I'm hoping to start getting better though, and soon I'm going to start posting some new work and process pieces for a ton of stuff I have waiting in the wings. Speaking of, I'm going to be in not one but TWO upcoming shows at Light Grey Art Lab: the Exquisite Corpse show and the Tarot show! I'm super excited about both - especially since I'm really enjoying my foray into the dark and mysterious.

To make this blog post worth something (it's really not, sorry!), here are two photos of my ideal summer life, which I am currently living: beach trips and froyo! BEACH TRIPS AND FROYO FOREVER.

Also here's a little sneak peek at what I'm working on now. It's very secretive, but now you know it's going to be greyscale, which I am LOVING. Why didn't I know how great greyscale was before?
