unlisted #8

Another set of items occupying my mind grapes - from the edible to the legible! Previous versions: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 7

bloodline | We were hurting pretty bad, TV-wise, after finishing House of Cards AND The Jinx in short succession. I love a good crime drama, true or fiction. After two episodes of this show I'm thinking it's exactly what I needed. Doesn't hurt that  Kyle "America's Favorite Coach/Police Offier" Chandler is in it.

korean bbq pizza | There's not a lot that can tear me away from a classic red sauce on a piece of pizza (I'm looking at you, white sauce- you have no right being on my pizza), but this recipe made me think twice. I'll admit, I was lazy and got a premade BBQ sauce from Trader Joe's, but they had this new sriracha kind and I really want to try it. Also I used premade dough too. No regrets.

myth, magic, and millennials | Usually when an article uses the word "millennial" in the headline I roll my eyes and go back to checking instagram while I drink my kale cold pressed juice. I KID I KID, but also not really. Anyway, this piece was actually really interesting and kinda hit the nail on the head for me.

good luck bar | After living within walking distance of this place for an entire year we finally made it over to Good Luck Bar to have some tasty tiki drinks. Of course, nothing holds a candle to Psycho Suzi's when it comes to tiki tastiness, but I definitely enjoyed my rum concoction.

the southern reach trilogy | I got the first book in Jeff VanderMeer's "sci fi" (if you could call it that and I still don't really know what to call it) trilogy from the library, and it so captivated me that the next day I ran out and bought the whole collected series. It helped that I'd seen the cover making the interweb rounds for quite some time and thought it was gorgeous and perfect, but really it's this weird/strange/gross/scary/beautiful story that got me so excited.

newpon | I follow two different rabbits on instagram. One of them is this fella.

random encounter

Hey blog! I've got a few fun things on my plate, hopefully soon they'll end up here. In the meantime I've got some RANDOM THINGS!!! to keep you company! We did a little dog sitting earlier in the week for an adorable little wiener dog named (get this) Emma. She was a wonderful guest, but this girl had the most amazing adorably sad sparkle eye thing going on. Even when she was happy HER EYES WERE FILLED WITH THE SADNESS OF A THOUSAND SOULS.

So clearly I made a gif of her.

Also I did a little piece for the adorable Inconnu magazine - for an article about YOUR FAVORITE PAIR OF JEANS. My favorite pair of jeans are super cheap forever21 jeans. The material is like tissue paper but dang do they make my butt look good.

ring bearer

Did you guys catch that excellent Beyoncé concert / game of hand egg last night? Man, what a blast. I seem to be enjoying televised sports more and more these days, although I STILL don't quite understand how football works. Each year someone has to explain it to me.

In order to pump myself over Queen Bey and her glory I put on some of her bests on Spotify and loaded up.... Lord of the Rings online. Yeah okay, I've been playing it a little after my brother and his lady convinced me that I should give it a shot. It's free, okay? Any video game where you can design a character is already something I want to play, and it's free and you can like.. fight BEARS.

So here's my character Nanfrid (Norse for "brave and fair", doncha know) with a vial of green dye. She loves dying her clothes and fighting bears and spiders.

Now that I got that nerdery out of the way, I've got some exciting stuff waiting in the wings that I can't WAIT to show you. Just hold your horses, little bloggert!

In the meantime please enjoy these photos of my coat rack during last night's super bowl party and a cat I saw at a cat show last weekend.

year of the snake

When it comes to fate I only choose to believe when it is convenient. Like how over the weekend I happened to find myself at a giant circus themed dance night to celebrate the birthday of a friend - there were clowns (ick), people on stilts (more ick) and... SNAKES. Ahhhhh snakes, my childhood love. I wanted to study reptiles for the longest time, until I found out that drawing was a little more easy.

Anyway, the very next day I got a text from my brother introducing me to the newest member of his household. Severus is 4 months old, and EVERSO darling. So I drew him, because why not?

BONUS: here's some of the elements, before I scanned them in... plus something from a planned future piece:

A quick "rest of the summer" recap to tide my "I don't post enough on this thing"-guilt over while I work on something a little more long form for this here bloggie. Hopefully it will be interesting to others!!

camera obscura

Well, it finally happened. After pining after my friends iphones and blackberries endlessly, dreaming checking my e-mail surreptitiously without having to bring out the computer, checking into four square, actually being able to DO something with the pictures I take on my phone.... I GOT A SMARTPHONE. And it is lovely. (a droid incredible, for those curious. I highly recommend it so far.)

My current obsession is the toy camera/polaroid application. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

p.s. yes, we got a set of mounted antlers for the wall. I found them at a giant sprawling flea market during my yearly pilgrimage there (three years in a row!), and they happened to be exactly what I was looking for at the right price point (i.e. cheaptown). However, there are many to be found on etsy... that last one is my fave.

thinly veiled

veil

I have been playing around in photoshop & illustrator A LOT recently... and not really saving much. But this one made the cut! I based it on a sweet photograph I saw (can you imagine this for realsies?) but of course can't find the image.

Next week I'm going to Ann Arbor to see my younger (taller) brother graduate from college. This seems like it must be some sort of joke! Are we getting old? One of my friends pointed out that he remembered when my brother graduated from HIGH SCHOOL. IT WASN'T THAT LONG AGO, FOLKS. Crazytown. I've decided to try that thing out where you plan all your outfits in advance... the last few times I've traveled I've managed to pack a bunch of things that don't go well together, so we'll see how this goes.

Also... puppies:
