buy buy birdie

NEW STUFFFFFF

After realizing all of our recent purchases for the shop had a primary color theme, Alli and I thought it only fitting to have a little red balloon photoshoot! We had a LOT of fun and there are tons of cute things to check out.

But also I am obsessed with etsy swimsuits, and am too chicken to buy one because (1) what if I cannot swim in it (vintage swimsuits are sometimes made out of unswimmable materials!) and (2) WHAT IF IT DOESN'T FIT?!?!?! Perhaps in a few paychecks time I will man up and buy one. In the meantime, here: reap the benefits of my doubts:

rockies

rockies!

Lately I have been drawing rocks that I see and giving them personalities. HOW FUN. It looks like the guy on the left is telling a pretty intense story and freaking out the other two.

I'm also experimenting in photoshop, trying to get more of a combination of a digital and traditional look. Meg Hunt and John Martz are my driving force to figure that style out.

running

br

I'm on the job these days working at my alma matter's pre-college program, making sure the kiddies don't do anything bad. tonight we're showing them Blade Runner and in all our excitement Bryan and I couldn't help watching the making-of documentary this morning.

Blade Runner is kind of a magical film because it is a great examples of many art forms: film, music, art, fashion, etc. I've been scouring the web for examples of the logos and sign design used in the film (there are thousands) but of course, I couldn't find anything.

The fashion from Blade Runner, however, is EVERYWHERE. The character of Rachel has always been my favorite, her hair and makeup and clothing is so great. And, of course, there have been numerous photo shoots and fashion collections inspired by her look - like the one above from Vogue in April 2009. Who would have known that giant shoulders combined with that classic 'do could look so good?

smocked

06.15.09pattern

On my trip to ra-cha-cha (or rochester) the cousins and I hit an amazing garage sale where I picked up this little red number. I didn't try it on or anything, with the thought that if it didn't fit i'd simply put it in the shop (how great is that option?! I'm loving the vintage shop cop out) but it fits PERFECT. I love how it's a little baggy but still fits well in the arms. It makes me feel like a spunky artist character in an old film for some reason. I've been desperately trying to search out what film I could use as an example but haven't come up with any. Suggestions?

Another obsession of mine as of late is the following shoes by Mr. Steven Madden. I tried them on at DSW and had to be carried out of the store kicking and screaming just so that I wouldn't buy them.... and now I can't find them anywhere online! WHAT IF I NEVER OWN THEM.

while visiting the fam in rochest, new york, my cousins pulled out my aunt & uncle's old college yearbook. It really made me wish I could time travel back to the 60s and go to college all over again - you should have seen the photo for the philosophy club!! The large group of fellows in the first photos belong to Theta Chi, my uncle's fraternity. If you want to get a glimpse of Uncle Bob he's the stoic fellow on the motorcycle.

The ladies in the third picture are the Sigma Sigma Sigma ladies- WACKY.

The last two photos are from my aunt and uncle's wedding, which were also amazing. My mom is seated in the first one, looking quite lovely. It seems like snapshots from nowadays don't have the personality and charm they used to. Thanks for the photos, Aunt Pinky!
