miss white in the hallway with the crown molding

I was trying to find interior shots for The Shinig, given that I'm watching it right now and wanted to speak of its beautiful interior design. Along the way, however, I came across this article in the Times. It's kind of like a real version The Westing Game or Clue... without the whole "dead guy's will" thing. Basically a rich family hired an architecture firm to redo the interior of their apartment, but the designer didn't just redo their interior. He put a giant, complicated puzzle literally into the woodwork. How weird would that be to come home and be like "hey honey, how was work? mm, yes, good. well, how about we go solve the next leg of the puzzle? I think there might be a clue in the kitchen cupboards."

JUST IMAGINE.

p.s. J.J. already has the rights to the movie

can we talk?

let's talk about one of my current favorite illustrators right now: Maxwell Loren Holyoke Hirsch. He has a sweet name, which is not the only reason I like him, but it does help in my belief that with a sweet name you can go far. And I happen to like my name. There is a quality in his work that I feel like I've been striving towards ever since I got to Minneapolis and realized that maybe I wasn't so into anime*. It's loose and free, but it never feels like it loses its focus. The colors are always fantastic - and I admire a person who can use black so successfully. It's also the mark-making. I've been sooo frickin' into mark-making for the past few years, and this guy has it DOWN. The danger behind mark-making is that it can get too ornamental, but when done right it can be sweet and meaningful.

Boring story short, this is a talented person that is getting the recognition (err, from real magazines and such, not from me) he rightfully deserves.

Also, the new Spyhouse is possibly better than the old one. BLASPHEMY?

(*: Embarrassing but true fact: emma brown trithart was into the animes & the mangas & such. This will be discussed at a later date)

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS HAT?!

My hat, that is, not Ben's. I bet Ben never looses his hat. I, however, do not have a good track record for keeping all my belongings together. And in all the madness of this weekend (my lovely parents visited) I seem to have misplaced my beloved little hat I got at Urban Outfitters awhile ago. I don't quite want to replace it yet, in hopes that it's hiding in my apartment somewhere. I'm going to be heartbroken if it's truly gone - it fit my head perfectly. KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED.

these are a few of my favorite things

i love u (#2)

i am a little obsessed with expensive things, like furniture. yet, i have just decided to cut down my extraneous spending to food only. OH WOE, what a bad time to love spendy things.

another thing i'm obsessed with is kate spade's behind the curtain site. It's little inspirations and behind the scenes from one of the classiest shoe, bag, and everything else designers in the world. The "things we love" section is my favorite, especially because it introduced me to sweetgifs.com, which is worth taking a few minutes of time to get lost in.

uneccessary bling

Barbara K makes tools for women. I own a hammer by her. However, I'm now wondering if I should have splurged a few thousand dollars more for this BLING'D OUT TOOLKIT. What will they bling next? Maybe a remote control? A toaster? clothes hangers?

blanket head?

RIDDLE ME THIS, FRIENDS: what was Tyra thinking when she wore what appears to be someone's bedsheet on the latest episode of America's Next Top Model? Is this the new walk of shame? The new fashion statement? I DON'T UNDERSTAND. Even IGN doesn't understand!!

fine, fine. list time.

It all started when Alli posted on her blog the ubiquitous "i want one" list. I drooled over libemarlene's lists many times over, but it was not until Alli so sagely pointed out the fact that, if you go shopping, a list could save you money, rather than you just buying whatever you like.

Because, honestly, I think nowadays if I did that I'd just buy dresses. It's my bad habit.

So here it is, my list of lists (shortened for my own bank account):

+a plaid dress. I know this is a dress, technically, but I have longed after them so very much, I think I can make an exception. (image from cora boutique)

+slouchy hat. I had one last year that I stole from my dad, but I LOST IT. quelle domage. (image from urban outfitters) GOT IT

+shorty short gloves. because my hands get cold. (don't remember where these were from)

+NEW HEELS. I don't care what they look like, the only requirement is not wedges and not black. (image from kurtgeiger.com) GOT IT

+bow headband. In order to properly transform myself into Blaire Waldorf. (image from topshop) GOT IT

+new skirt. Must be poofy or pencil skirt. Cannot be all black or denim. (image also from topshop)

nerdfest: over.

cool dads

best liscence plate ever?

saw this guy in the drive through at McDonalds. There were kids in the car, which lead me to create a story in my mind about him being a cool designer dad.

research

I'm doing some photo research for a really exciting project I'm working on. Once it's done I'll spill my guts about it, but for now, I'll spill my guts about the American Civil War Photo Gallery. There are TONS of photos of everything you could ever want, but my favorite section is the prisoners and conspirators section. The portraits (like the one above) are great, I'm especially into the composition. There's so much space above them, maybe it is for their thoughts.
