house & home

I draw a lot of people generally, but my sights have turned to houses & homes. Obviously I love home interiors - considering some of my most visited blogs are apartment therapy, door sixteen, and visit the selby regularly. But the exterior of the home I find most interesting when artistically depicted. I'm looking to a lot of great artists for inspiration for this sort of thing..

tagged!

For my 100th post (woo!) I'm going to do this taggy thing. I got tagged by Miss Eyeliah of Style Symmetry.

HERE BE THE RULES:

1. go to the 4th folder on your computer where you store your images

2. pick the 4th picture in the folder

3. explain the picture

4. tag 4 people to do the same:.... I'm actually going to leave this open, as I am not exactly the tagger type. DO IT IF YOU PLEASE.

HERE BE THE PHOTO:

I was showing my dad the magic that is Photobooth over christmas break. He looks bemused and bald (he isn't actually bald), I look frickin' crazy. (Note the rival school sweatshirt)

p.s. FRICK. domino's shuttin' down! What am I going to do with myself? I will miss it SO MUCH.

les choses, et des autre choses.

(full image here)

Here are a few updates from Emma-Land:

+I'm trying to do some illustrations! On top of a cool clock project that I've been working on from time to time with my buds bill and trygve, I've been dinking around with combining illustration & photography. I'm using the pictures I took in Hudson, and I think it's going well - if not just for the sake that experimentation is healthy for all illustrators!

+The lovely Eyeliah of Style Symmetry featured me and my clothing in a post yesterday. This smart lady picked up on the fact that I wear a lot of the same pieces over and over again - but thankfully she swung it in a way that actually made me sound kind of cool (instead of just being lazy, which is actually the truth).

+My cutie-pants boyfriend got himself a blog (b'oh) and he rather appropriately named it goodbye bryan. Now our blogs are friends!

+I've been rabidly devouring the art/home pics of Marie-Klara, aka Miss Capricho on flickr. Her art just blows me away - it's effortless and chic every time. I wish I could use watercolors like she....

propmaster

on top of being an amazing illustrator, letter press master, and creator of comics, Ross MacDonald creates props. Props for fairly big time movies, like National Treasure, Zorro, and others. Now while these movies might not be too great, the props he creates for them (THOUSANDS of hand printed brochures, handwriting developed for specific characters, books bound according to the time period the film is set in!) are amazing.

Go take a look!

In Pursuit of Trivia from bthompson on Vimeo.

i was hanging out with bill yesterday working on portfolio stuff. and then we got distracted. and tried record questions for trivial pursuit: america plays. It didn't go so well.

my book house

This last photo was spotted at Abigail Page's Antiques Emporium (FOR CUTE). I'd say it has some of the best selections of scarves, records, and dishware I may have ever seen. Good prices, too - and everything 20% till the 30th!

i also got possibly the most redonk mohair & fur coat ever. get ready kids, it's coming out tonight.

itunes, itoons

earlier in 2008 I got an e-mail from Laura (who I went to high school with and is incidentally tots awesome) asking me to do the packaging for one Matt Jones, a musician from my home state of Michigan. It's finally coming to fruition, including going up on the iTunes store! I think this is totally awesome, and it makes me ever more excited to see the actual cd case when it comes out.

on a side note, I immediately loved Matt's music. It went straight on my ipod as something that I'd listen to even if I didn't do artwork for him. Very soaring, folky and intelligent. Evokes pretty mournful feelings, which I very much appreciated when coming up with the imagery.

GO BUY IT ON ITUNES.

ice cube

FRICKABEES THAT'S COLD. I am naturally warm blooded and generally prefer a cool breeze to a sweaty gross one, but not when the windchill makes it NEGATIVE TWENTY OUTSIDE (that's tonight's forecast). Can it be spring now?

SO COLD.

bill and i spent much time in his apartment today, blankets upon blankets upon blankets were piled on. But we still managed to get some work done! I worked on my dad's business card (to be revealed later) and bill worked on the most amazing poster known to man, whose progress is available to view here.

For something completely different, who's excited for LOST?! I know I frickin' am. So is Jin. (Do you think he's dead? I CERTAINLY DON'T. YOU KNOW THEY'RE BRINGING HIM BACK.)

flickr faves

1. Showgirls, 2. bunny rabbit, 3. Untitled, 4. Sophia Loren, 5. Carroll Baker, 6. oranges, 7. Untitled, 8. Magic Mountain, 9. shoes

Here are some of my recent flickr favorites! I thought I'd post them because I noticed they're taking a sort of... vintage and modern fluff direction. Lots of white, lots of ladies, lots of pretty colors and fashionable things.

some things that make me happy

it's tough times out there - jobs, art, what have you. but there are still things to make a person happy!

+weardrobe love. I know it's silly, but it's nice getting a little fashion attention every once in awhile. My red belt loves it too.
+watching The Room with some cheap wine and friends. It's really possibly the worst "movie" ever, but it has some really classic lines.... maybe the best to watch if you are an internet nerd.
+the first ten minutes of peewee's big adventure. The whole movie is great, but those first ten minutes are CLASSIC.

inspiration

I've been rabidly devouring anything the vintageladies flickr photostream or this image pool throws my way. These ladies are sassy AND adorable. Also they have fab taste in clothes (if they're wearing any!)

p.s. clicking that link might lead to images not safe for work. BE WARNED. but really, it's just ladyparts. who's afraid of ladyparts?
