melon head

Etsy has clearly been on my mind recently! Shopping there of course, but now I'm delving back into selling a little bit.

So I whipped up a couple listings and did a little "soft open" of my shop last week. Currently there are only two items but I'm planning on doing more invites soon. If there's something you'd really love to see let me know!

One of the two items available is this fun fruit themed party invite above! Who doesn't love a good pineapple to start the party? I've had such a great time making little party paper freebies in the past that I wanted to do something new to coincide with my shop's opening.

Without further ado I present to you: MINI WATERMELON BUNTING!
(download here, for the impatient)

Seriously, the possibilities are endless for these tiny babies. I just hung them on my wall, but you could make a cake topper or wrap little gifts in it! Or just wrap your entire self int them and live a watermelon-y life.

Making them is super duper easy too, and if it's coming from me (my craft is.... sub par?) it must be true.

What you'll need:
  • The printable file from yours truly
  • An exacto knife or scissors
  • Twine or string in whatever color your heart desires
  • Glue! I used Tacky Glue and it worked like a charm.

What you'll do:
  1. Cut out the little watermelon diamonds!
  2. Fold on the dotted line - if your paper is a little stiff like mine was you can try making a veeeery light score with your exacto knife. That way your paper won't tear!
  3. Outline one of the triangles with glue. Make sure to get the glue in the crease! I applied it slightly away from the outer edges so that it didn't squish out in the next step.
  4. Place the open diamond where you'd like it to be underneath the twine and squish it together!
  5. REPEAT!!!

Now you have fun party invitations and fun party decorations... all you need is some cake and you're set!

starlight

So my plan was to post photos of my brother and new sister-in-law's entire wedding suite as soon as we returned from the wedding itself... back in August.... and now it's November....

Yeah, a little late on that game. But better late than never? Right guys? Kelly and Jacob decided on a constellation theme pretty early on, which gave me plenty of time to work that into all their suite. All in all I ended up creating a save the date, invitation, map & reception card, RSVP card, escort cards, table numbers, the program, a return address stamp and some chalkboard art.

Listing that out it looks like a lot, but trust me dudes: this was a a fun one. Both the making of the suite and the attending of the wedding! We partied our patoots off until Bryan and I hobbled back to my parent's house to sleep forever.

I'm a big sucker for maps, so making this little fella detailing some of the great things to do in my great hometown was extra fun. Seriously though, if you go to Ann Arbor and you don't stop into at least ONE of these places I fully pity you.

And of course, congrats to Jacob and Kelly. It feels really wonderful to finally have a sister!

p.s. if you're getting married and want to talk invites, save the dates and more feel free to contact me: etrithart(at)gmail(dot)com! I don't have any rigid package structure, so we can work with your budget.

date book

I've been working on several wedding invitation projects for the past few months - they've been such a blast and I'm lucky enough to know at least one person out of every couple, so of course that makes them even more special. They're all wrapping up (except for my brother's wedding suite, which you'll get to see later!) so I thought I'd post a couple!

Each one of these features some hand lettering, which is what really draws me to custom wedding invitations. If this is what you think you want in your wedding invitation (or baby shower invitation or 80th birthday party invitation etc etc etc) you should contact me

p.s. We've successfully arrived in LA! Once my head stops spinning I'll be sure to post about it.

 Ben & Bill
the invitation / boys at the altar

Since I still haven't used up any of the film I started in August (!!) I'm here today to update you with some phone photos and general talk.

Perhaps you've seen the invitation I worked on for their wedding, but back in August two of my best buddies Bill and Ben got married on Ben's grandparent's farm in Iowa. Friends and family gathered together to celebrate a super amazing couple, and after the I do's there was nary a dry eye in the house! I might be getting a little misty writing about it right now, that's how special these fellas are to me.

Of course then we all partied down and after the last beer was imbibed a few of us retired to tents and spent the night under the stars on the farm. It was SO MUCH FUN, is what I'm really trying to say.

Other life things worth nothing
-Made my very first batch of jam, strawberry and sriracha flavored. Surprisingly good.
-If you missed out on my buddy Scout Vintage's pop up shop you should feel sad, but not for long, because you can shop online!
-I have been playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf NONSTOP. The addition of QR codes so you can share your custom fashions is such a great idea. In case you're playing, here are great roundups of mens & mostly ladies codes.
-Saw Gravity, was awed and very terrified.
-Read this article on the Twin Cities dating scene, rolled eyeballs so hard they fell out of my head

inspire/invite

I'm really starting to get into stationery, folks. A few wedding invites under my belt and now I want to do it all. It allows for hand drawn type and fun colors and cute things. So yesterday I decided I was going to challenge myself by making a small trend board for a theoretical party and then create an invite to go along with it.

It was so much fun. SO MUCH FUN, this is the kind of thing that I think is fun. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!

Just kidding! Nothing is wrong with me, I just like drawing fun fall harvest party things. And hey - if you're planning on hosting a harvest party you're in luck, because this baby has a nice big empty box for you to fill in the details via photoshop/word/mspaint/a pen.

Download the hi-res file here here (sorry for anyone who encountered a broken link! I fixed it. -Emma From the Future) for all your pumpkiny party needs! And then invite me to the party so I can try that roasted veggie pizza!
