play with magic

Britt Sabo (MCAD whatttuppp) and Victoria Grace Elliot are my heroes this week. These are the ladies running the Witchsona tumblr, which exists purely so that nerds like me can draw themselves as a witch and put it somewhere.

So here's my witch! She only wears black Jeffery Campbell boots, puts cell phone charms on her broom and has a black goose familiar named Walter Gropius who helps her suss out gems and minerals for her collection. Essentially she is living my dream life.

There have been SO MANY good witchsonas so far, but I managed to collect a few of my faves. NACHO WITCH YOU GUYS.

haha also don't hate me but I kind of love that Katy Perry Grammy performance. YOU HATE ME NOW I KNEW IT.

band together

Here's a project that's near and dear to my heart. Fair Oaks is an amazing band out of Minneapolis, two of whose members also happen to be buddies of mine! When Molly and Andy came to me to see if I'd do their album art for This Is The River clearly the answer was yes. They were pretty open to the look of the art, but after giving some early cuts of a few songs a listen I felt like the whole thing just came together! That photo in the background is totally a polaroid I found at an antique store by the way - there was nothing else in the shot ... just that tree trunk.

Seriously though, this album is worth giving a spin and then enthusiastically buying. You could go for my favorite track (THE CLAPS) or you could check out this awesome lyric video for another stellar song that my awesome fella made for them!

The CD release show was last weekend, so all of this is fresh in my mind. The album is already getting a lot of positive spin, and I couldn't be more happy for them!

what is dead may never die

According to the internet, this video was posted on January 12th. BUT SOMEHOW I didn't see the trailer for season 4 of Game of Thrones up until a few days ago.... and if this trailer is indicative of the tone of the entire season in any way I have a feeling that it's going to be a good one. CHELSEA WOLFE, for goodness sake. Let me shake the hand of the genius that chose this song for the trailer, it is 100% perfection (and one of my favorite songs of last year in general!). April is going to be a good month.

In celebration, a roundup of my dream Game of Thrones-y items. After all, a lady has to have some way of pretending she's a member of the Night's Watch.

1) moon pendant by kelly lamb 2) combat battle boots at necessary clothing 3) all seeing eye amulet by mudpuppy 4) charcoal water filter at leif 5) two of swords earrings by bloodmilk

Here comes the big one! If you win the lottery and are stumped with how to spend all that money, might I recommend buying me a present?

I MEAN REALLY. This thing is a requirement for my true happiness.

on the run

2014 is the year of the horse, but it's also the year of change for this moi. Yes, there was the whole "got engaged" thing, and now I've got another bomb to drop: we're moving! Come March we're packing up our beloved studio apartment and shuttling off across the country to Los Angeles.  Obviously I'm excited beyond comprehension, but I'm going to miss all of my wonderful friends here. They've become more like family, and it'll be hard to say goodbye to all of the charms of the Twin Cities. We'll be visiting plenty, luckily!

So starting now it's bucket list / road trip playlist planning / apartment and job hunting time. If anyone has any leads on some cheap cheap livin' in LA (Los Feliz preferably) let me KNOW. I'll be taking a mini mini trip in February to hopefully secure a place with the help of my spirit guide Katie.

In other totally unrelated news (except for the fact that I'm pretty sure he lives nearby the neighborhood we're looking at) I have finally arrived on the Donald Glover/Childish Gambino boat. Well folks, I'm here to tell you that if you haven't heard it already you absolutely must give Because The Internet a chance.

current events

recent things: badges from Jen / it was colder in Minnesota than it was in Antarctica last Monday, so....

Hello again, world! I don't have a physical list of new years resolution anywhere, but I guess I should probably try to keep up with the blog. It's not as though I'm doing this professionally or even regularly, but it's a nice practice and I get a lotttt of satisfaction from going through my archives and remembering stuff from years ago. Does anyone else do that? Am I crazy? Bueller?

Anyway, the year has continued to be pretty great so far. I made quesdillas twice last week, which is a definite sign of success. Coming in at a close second for greatness was this little feature in Communication Art's typography annual:

All kidding aside, it was seriously so great to see my name alongside all the cool folks at Colle + Mcvoy. This project continues to be one of my dreams come true, so I'm feeling super blessed to have been able to work on it. Insert hands high emojicon herrreeeee~~~~

If all this career talk bores you, why not check out this most glorious moment I managed to catch on the Golden Globes last night? Some people seem to be insinuating that Diddy was stealing the moment, but they're just jealous that they didn't get to be on a boat with him.

fresh start

Happy New Year little blog! 2013 was amazing in so many ways, but guess who's too lazy to do a recap? Yep uh-huh this moi. I'd much prefer to make a fun little gif and then wax poetic about my New Years Eve.

The evening was spent with some wonderful friends at a bar that was just crowded enough to make it a party, but not so crazy that we couldn't hear ourselves talk. Sure, the DJ was just so-so, but after midnight the playlist turned to old school Backstreet Boys, so all was forgiven.

The next day I prepared some tasty breakfast burrito bowls (look at all that cilantro) and then something KINDA major happened.....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yep, you might know this already, but a certain fella popped the question! Obviously there were tears and much nodding of the head, and now I get to wear this amazing herkimer diamond ring with the prettiest hammered rose gold band. I don't know how he figured out exactly what I would have picked for myself, but this is it! Simple? Rustic? Mineral setting? HAHAHA MY DREAM COME TRUE, I DIED ABOUT FIFTY TIMES. We're taking our time and not getting a head start on planning yet but I must warn you, dearest blerg, that there may be some mawwaige related posts in the coming months.

2014 is already off to an amazing start, and there are a lot of exciting things waiting in the wings. I'll keep it at that for now, but I can only hope that everyone out there in internet land is just as excited for the new year as I am.
